Doctoral consortium

OLKC 2015 Doctoral Consortium – 9th April, 2015 (h. 9.30-17.00)

OLKC 2015 will hold a Doctoral Consortium prior to the main conference. The one-day consortium will focus on discussing doctoral students’ research. Paper sessions will be limited to doctoral students who have had an extended abstract describing their thesis research reviewed and accepted by the Consortium Faculty.

The purpose of the OLKC 2015 Doctoral Consortium is to help doctoral students further develop their research in a community of peers and academic mentors.  Students whose proposals are accepted for the consortium are expected to register for and participate in the main OLKC conference as well as the Doctoral Consortium. This provides a valuable opportunity to learn about what is current in the area of organizational learning and knowledge research and to network with other academic colleagues. The Consortium is designed to facilitate constructive feedback and discussion around the literature, theory, ideas, concepts, frameworks, methods and/or data analysis that that students are developing for their PhD  dissertations. The proposed schedule for the doctoral consortium is as follows: During the morning session, students accepted for the Consortium will present and discuss their research in groups of 3-4 people facilitated by the Faculty Conveners. Conveners will review participants’ research proposals, and then provide feedback and lead the joint discussion session. Participants will also be required to read and constructively review papers from their fellow participants in the small groups. Following a working lunch, the afternoon session will host a plenary discussion about doing and publishing high quality research.

Teaching workshop

OLKC 2015 Teaching Workshop – 9th April, 2015 (h. 9.30-16.30)

The OLKC teaching workshops aims at producing a refined focus on our teaching practices, rooted in the research interests of the OLKC community. Workshop numbers are restricted to 15 in order to maintain the highly participative and discursive approach required for the type of work we aim to do.

The Workshop theme is based partly on the OLKC 2015 theme, and partly on the themes emerging from previous workshops. We are interested in exploring how learning may be facilitated to circulate around experience, theory and reflection, and how it can trigger new actions and change in different contexts, thus contributing to a renewed sense of authorship. We wish to explore the relationship between class room learning and improvement and innovation in organizational and managerial practices.

Writing “qualitatively”: developing high quality-qualitative papers in the organizational studies field.

OLKC 2015 Teaching Workshop – 9th April, 2015 (h. 9.30-15.30)

The PDW is aimed at developing stronger papers outline based on earlier submitted draft papers that present qualitative research studies. In order to achieve this aim, the workshop will provide participants with an overview of diverse genres of qualitative writing, in order to show how these genres might usefully be applied to studies of organizations of all kinds. In addition, the challenges of writing less traditional qualitative papers, such as reflexive writings and teaching cases, and for different targets and audiences, will be discussed. Faculty members with ample experience in qualitative writing will chair small breakout sessions where participants will have the opportunity for a detailed discussion of their works. The workshop targets early career scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds and interests, wishing to enhance their knowledge of and skills in qualitative writing.
